The ladies welcomed back team captain Sesh for the game against Ashbourne this weekend.
Some changes were made to the team, with centre forward Clair dropping into her old possision as defender, Hayley took her place with Rach up front, and Chez was back into midfield, along with Donna.
As the ref blew his whistle, Ashbourne were on the attack straigh away, and thanks to a great back 4 working well together, and covering each other, they were denyed of attacking forward by being caught offside.
The midfield started to work together really well, with Donna woking really hard on the right. M.J had a good chance on goal, but her shot , which looked like it was trickling over the line, some how managed to stop dead on the line. If playing conditions had been better, that shot would of broken the deadlock for sure.
Midway kept piling on the pressure with Lizzy making some great runs down the left, working well with Hayley and Chez, but her cross wasnt met by anyone in the box.
0-0 at half time, and dispite working their socks off, Midway knew that the next 45 minutes they would have to work even harder.
5 minutes into it, Rach had a good chance on goal, only for the goalie to neatly collect it. Ashbourne then started to add on the pressure, but the back 4 again, worked well together.
30 mintues from the end, Midway decided to change things around, bringing on C.J and Ruth, and Clair pushed up into her familier role at forward.
A great run down the left from Lucy, provided Clair with a good chance, but the Ashbpourne defence was too strong for her.
Hayley had some good chances just go wide of the post, and Sesh made some great runs from the back, to have a go on goal herself.
Ashbourne had the best chance of the game, when they pushed forward, keeper Joe , who had had a great game so far, commited herself to a tackle she didnt win, sending their forward through on goal. Midway then thanked their lucky stars that she missed the greatest sitter EVER!
6mins from time, Midway pushed to look for the goal they needed, and it nearly fell to them. After a series of good passing from the defence through to the midfield, Hayley made a great pass for Clair to run onto. With Ashbournes right back obstructing her, her shot was miss hit, and then their were appeals for a penalty.
0-0 the final score, which all in all was a fair result, as both teams came close to scoring on a number of occasions. _________________ Top of the league, having a laugh! |
