Midway FC 7 – 1 Barton Rovers
Midway got off to a flying start against ten men Barton with Tom squeezing the ball into the net from a tight angle. A sustained period of pressure from Midway followed, resulting in some good saves from the Barton goalie to deny fine efforts from Asharaf, Connor, Ashley and Tom.
Matthew then tried to repeat last week’s long range strike but he too was foiled by a fine take from the goalie, shortly after Tommy was also left frustrated by a fingertip save after a long range effort.
Some good passing interchange between Ashley, Jack and Connor finally brought some joy for Asharaf who calmly slotted the ball home only to see it chalked off for what was apparently an offside sometime earlier in the build up, this added to determined defending from Barton meant that the score line remained 1-0 at halftime.
Barton couldn’t have asked for a better start to the second half when their forward, straight from the kick off, waltzed round several Midway players as if they weren’t there, stroked the ball past Elliott who could only watch as the ball came off the post and roll agonisingly over the line to equalise.
After a few minutes of finger pointing and passing of blame Midway decided to actually put things right and work as unit again, the passing game returned and soon Connor was found in space and made no mistake by slamming the ball into the corner of the net. Connor’s second goal and Midways third shortly followed with an ambitious chip that the Barton goalie somehow let slip through his outstretched hands to drop over the line.
A few changes in midfield saw Alex, Lewis and Chris come on for Matthew, Jack and Tom which seemed to bring fresh impetus into the attack which also allowed the Midway defenders to get into advanced positions. One such attack saw Richard beat two Barton players down the right and drill in a cross that ricocheted off a couple of players straight towards the Barton goalie who allowed the ball to once again slip through his hands.
The fifth goal soon followed after Asharaf was allowed time and space in the box to turn and emphatically finish from close range, Connor then completed his hat-trick with another ambitious effort that wasn’t dealt with by the Barton goalie.
Lewis then rounded off the scoring after he made himself some space with neat skills and poked the ball under the advancing goalie in the dying minutes.
Well done again lads – The Home Fans
Another fine win, fourth in a row, over a dogged Barton Team who deserve credit for never giving up. Apart from the momentary lack of concentration that allowed the equaliser I really can’t complain about any aspect of this game, the attitude is good and so is the response to being replaced during a game or being named as substitute (not easy to keep everyone happy with so many players all fighting for the same positions) Keep it up lads - DAZ

Man-of-the-Match:Ashley – worked tirelessly in support of forwards and helped breakdown any potential threat in midfield, he just seemed to be everywhere.
