LUCK OF THE IRISH
Pinxton 1 -2 Midway
With midway now unbeaten in 5 games, they knew that this top of the table clash away to Pinxton was going to be a very tough match. The very windy conditions didnt help the game flow as much as people would of prefered but from the off, midway looked the stronger side (after a 2 min silence for rememberance day), with the wind as their advantage.
Great defending, fab runs and touches down the wing, and quick reactions from the forwards, allowed midway to start piling on the pressure, and soon it was only going to be a matter of time before the ladies took the lead. And they did on 15 minutes, when Pinxton was denyed an oppotunity to go up thanks to some good defending and goal keeping from Chez. Somehow the ball landed to Clair's feet and she places a fine through ball to the feet of Linda. Her first touch sent the keeper making an early wrong decision allowing Linda to score on her debut!
Shell and Lizzy worked well with M.J in the middle and down the flank to make some great crosses into Joe and Womble, and Sesh linked up with Lucy at the back to get the ball behind the defenders. Sesh came close to getting a 2nd goal when her fine shot hit the woodwork. Changes were made to the defence and midfield at half time to strengthen the back 4 and right hand side of midfield, with Shell and Linda switching places.
Midway got straight back into things from the off in the 2nd half and it only took them 5 mintues to get their 2nd goal, when a fab run from Kate ended with a fine shot, going straight past the keeper. But then Midway started to feel the pressure of some good football from Pinxton and they were now on the recieving end of the bad wind.
The back 4 made sure that they were keeping 5 yards off the strikers in order to defend the keeper, but a fine ball from the oppositions midfield, had the defence on the back foot, and unfortunatly Chez was lobbed in goal. Sesh and Lucy made some fine moved on the left to create more chances for Joe and Kate, as did Shell Lizzy and M.J but it wasnt to be. A clearance off the line by Claire, and a crucial defending header from Clair right at the end garanteed midway all 3 points. The ladies are very pleased with their performance and now know that they are more than capable of winning this league if the right attitude contines on and off the pitch...well done girls, keep it up.
