Catchem's turned up at Chestnut to 'hammer' Midway in the Metro Cup and with Midway fielding a depleted squad they had every right to consider this a possibility. Like Dunsmore and Snooty though last year a good game was ahead of them as Midway tried to pull off the shock result.
Early chances came aplenty for Midway but somehow they weren't being converted and the misses were to be regretted as in a 5 minute period halfway through the 1st half Cathems took a 2 goal lead. Midway though kept going and more chances came whilst W.Meade and J.Feasey the 2 centre backs and Noon in goal kept the Catchems attack at bay.
Half time saw the injured Squires replaced by Grummett and later Hall replaced Veasey on the left wing. Whetton pulled a goal back for the home side to put them in with a chance and with time running out Saunders managed to hit the upright, Whetton blasted straight at the keeper as chances came to take the tie to extra time.
Salihovic came on for the injured Wood with time running out but it wasn't to be and Catchems progressed into the next round.
A fantastic team performance that can make the side very proud. A game that should have been won but at the end of the day failing to convert the chances cost Midway. The neutral referee and even the Catchem's assistant on the side also felt that the wrong team had won but lack of goals counted in the end.
Good luck to Catchem's for the rest of the season and in this cup. Good team who played the game in good spirits.
